Two posters, CT scan for dogs and CT scan for cats, each labelling what a CT scan can find: cancer staging, pre-surgical checks, 3D models for surgical planning, tumors of the skull, cancer of the lungs and nasal cavity, abdominal disorders, liver blood vessels, joint disease and biopsy guidance

How a CT scan works

A CT scan works like a 3D medical camera, taking hundreds of detailed cross-sectional X-ray images of your pet’s body in just a few seconds. A computer stitches those slices together into a complete, interactive 3D model, allowing your Vet to see structural details about organs, bones, fractures, foreign bodies, blood vessels, trauma, and soft tissue that a flat X-ray simply cannot show.

What to expect

  1. 1Your veterinary staff prepares and gently sedates your pet.
  2. 2Inside our Rover mobile CT truck, a specialist performs a cone beam radiation CT scan.
  3. 3Images are ready to review immediately. Official radiology report available same day.
  4. 4You and your Vet discuss the next steps.

Questions pet owners ask

How long does a pet CT scan take?
The scan itself takes well under a minute. Including preparation, sedation and recovery, the whole visit is usually one to two hours.
Why does my pet need gentle sedation?
CT captures detail down to the micrometer. Even breathing or a small shift blurs the images, so light sedation keeps your pet perfectly still, relaxed and pain-free.
Is a CT scan safe for an older or sick pet?
Yes. Sedation doses are matched to your pet’s age, weight and health, and your veterinary team monitors them throughout.
What is the difference between an X-ray and a CT scan?
An X-ray is a flat, 2D shadow, and overlapping organs can hide a problem. A CT scan takes hundreds of cross-sectional images and builds a full 3D model your Vet can inspect from any angle.
When will we get the results?
Your Vet reviews the images immediately. Same day full report from a board-certified veterinary radiologist.
